A systematic review of project management serious games: Identifying gaps, trends, and directions for future research

David Rumeser, Margaret Emsley

Project management education struggles to aid learners in coping with complexity. A potential solution is the application of serious or educational games that are often used to help learners in dealing with complex problems. To expand and improve serious games application in project management, we conducted a systematic review that was centered on identifying gaps, trends, and directions for future research. Our study recommends researchers and educators to move toward simulating “soft” project knowledge areas, multiple projects scenarios in a multiplayer mode, and a complete project life cycle. We recommend adopting triangulation methods to minimize evaluation bias and improve design.
